The majority of Bhutan’s fish farms are warm-water based, but after Rainbow trout were introduced in 2008, the National Research Center for Riverine and Lake Fishes established the Trout Breeding Center to advance and expand cold-water fish culture.
There are currently a few cold fish farms in the country, particularly in Haa, like Tsang Chu Trout Farm, which are worthwhile visits to learn about Bhutan’s aquaculture. For individuals who enjoy fresh cold-water fish, a commercial cold fish farm, which are quite few in numbers offers a limited number of fish in the market, and by virtue of being less, it also attracts a lot of people.
